Persistent sadness clung to me

like my shadow, I could not shake

thrown into a deep well from which

I could see

blue sky but could not obtain

nor catch my breath

under a hopeless weight

that no one cares

*Dysthymia is a slow-rolling and less intense, but long-term form of depression. It occurs in up to 2 percent of children and up to 8 percent of adolescents, affecting females twice as often as males. Children with dysthymia may experience persistent sadness, emptiness, low self-esteem, feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, and hypersensitivity to rejection.
